Curriculum Overview

A Commitment to Excellence

At The Institute for Clinical Laboratory Education, we believe that excellence in diagnostics begins with excellence in education. Our comprehensive 1-year program is specifically designed for students who already hold a Bachelor of Science in Biology or a related field and are ready to transition into the dynamic world of clinical laboratory science. Through a rigorous hybrid model, students gain foundational and advanced knowledge via online coursework while building essential practical skills through immersive clinical training in CAP-certified laboratories.

Our curriculum is thoughtfully structured to ensure progressive mastery across all major disciplines of clinical laboratory science. Beginning with core concepts in laboratory operations, hematology, and chemistry, the program guides students through increasingly specialized areas such as immunohematology, microbiology, serology, and transfusion science. Each semester builds upon the last, culminating in board exam preparation and licensure readiness. With accessible instruction and expert-led training, TiCLE equips graduates to become confident, competent professionals ready to improve patient care through diagnostic excellence.

Introduction to Medical Laboratory Science

This course provides a foundational overview of the clinical laboratory profession, including lab safety, quality control, specimen processing, and regulatory compliance. Students will explore the roles and responsibilities of lab professionals and the essential principles that guide accurate and ethical diagnostic testing.

Clinical Laboratory Management

Students gain insight into the administrative and operational aspects of lab management, including personnel supervision, budgeting, quality assurance, compliance, and informatics. This course prepares future leaders in laboratory services.

Board Exam Prep

This capstone course equips students with the tools and strategies needed to succeed on national certification exams and meet state licensure requirements. It includes practice tests, content reviews, test-taking strategies, and personalized study planning.

Clinical Chemistry

This course explores biochemical testing and analysis of bodily fluids to diagnose and monitor diseases. Topics include instrumentation, analytical techniques, and interpretation of test results related to metabolic, endocrine, renal, hepatic, and cardiac function.

Clinical Immunohematology

This course covers the principles of antigen-antibody interactions in blood typing, compatibility testing, and antibody identification. Students learn critical procedures in transfusion medicine and how to prevent and manage adverse transfusion reactions.

Blood Banking & Transfusion

Building on immunohematology, this course dives deeper into blood product preparation, transfusion protocols, donor screening, and inventory management. Students are trained to ensure transfusion safety and respond to transfusion-related complications.

Clinical Hematology

Students study the composition and function of blood, focusing on red and white cell morphology, hematologic disorders, and diagnostic techniques such as complete blood counts and bone marrow evaluation. Advanced coursework includes case-based analysis and correlation with disease states.

Coagulation & Homeostasis

Students explore the mechanisms of blood coagulation and bleeding disorders, focusing on test methodologies like PT, aPTT, and D-dimer. Emphasis is placed on interpreting results to assist in diagnosing clotting abnormalities and managing anticoagulant therapy.

Clinical Urinalysis & Body Fluids

Students learn to analyze urine and other body fluids, including cerebrospinal, synovial, and pleural specimens. Emphasis is placed on physical, chemical, and microscopic examination techniques, with applications in diagnosing renal and systemic disorders.

Clinical Microbiology

Students study pathogenic bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites, focusing on specimen collection, culture techniques, identification methods, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing. Clinical case studies reinforce diagnostic strategies and infection control practices.

Clinical Immunology & Serology

This course examines the immune system’s response to disease, including autoimmunity, hypersensitivities, and immunodeficiencies. Students gain experience with serologic methods used in diagnosing infectious and immune-mediated conditions
